I often turn to smoothies with added protein powder as a way to squeeze a bit more protein into my diet especially for breakfast or post-workout. Typically, I favor an almond milk with chocolate whey protein powder base. However, this time of year our garden is booming, and the lettuce, spinach and kale is plentiful. So, I decided to try my hand at a green protein smoothie. It turned out quite tasty and the recipe follows below:
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
½ scoop vanilla casein protein
¼ cup frozen pineapple
¼ cup frozen mango
¼ teaspoon minced ginger
¼ avocado diced
1cup frozen mix kale, lettuce, spinach
Blend on high, then enjoy!
I bought fresh pineapple and mango then diced and froze in advance. I also picked the garden greens and froze in advance. This smoothie turned out to be a nice, thick, fruity protein treat with just a touch of kick thanks to that ginger! Overall, a delicious way to get in some additional protein!
